TNG In Conversation is our way of slowing down with the people who shape culture — quietly, intentionally, and with depth. This series creates space for perspective: the kind that lingers, expands, and inspires how we live, work, and create.
We built THE NEW GREEN to be more than a bar or a shop — it’s a space where ideas flow. In Conversation brings those ideas into focus: through dialogues with voices who influence how we think about creativity, community, and conscious living.
For our first edition, we sit down with someone whose work has shaped how we see fashion and where it’s heading: Lisa Hollogschwandtner — Editor-in-Chief of style in progress, Fashion Editor at FACES, long-time friend of THE NEW GREEN, and curator of this month’s No Black Friday: Shop, Sip & Donate event.
Together, we spoke about depth, clarity, longevity, and the ideas that stay.
This conversation marks the beginning of a series dedicated to thoughtful exchanges — the kind that don’t need volume to have impact.
1 – What do you want people to know about you — beyond your title?
I feel things quite intensely – most of the time it’s a blessing, sometimes a curse. But in journalism, I’ve come to see it as a real strength. It allows me to truly meet people, to understand what moves them, and to tell their stories in a way that makes them feel seen. Every person carries a story worth learning from.
2 — Your work has always been about point of view. How do you know when something belongs in your world?
I’m drawn to depth, and a sense of calm – in relationships, in creative work, even in the objects around me. When too much is happening, my mind feels like a browser with a thousand tabs open, so I try to keep my surroundings, especially my home, intentionally quiet. The things that truly belong in my world are the ones that ground me, that create clarity instead of noise.
3 — What makes a piece worth keeping — and how do you spot it?
For me, it’s mostly a feeling. Finding the balance between timelessness and relevance to our zeitgeist is probably one of the biggest challenges for designers. I’m personally drawn to clean, lasting silhouettes, beautiful materials, and subtle details that give a piece its character. And I believe the true magic lies in styling: The people who inspire me most don’t own huge wardrobes; they own pieces they genuinely identify with and style them in ways that make them feel new again.
4 — What’s a contradiction in you that actually makes you better at what you do?
I have a strong aversion to the digital world – which is ironic, considering how much of my work happens behind a screen. But that tension pushes me toward real connection. It’s why interviews are my favorite part of the job: sitting with someone, listening without distraction, letting their story unfold. Telling people’s stories in the magazines I write for feels like a privilege, and meeting creative minds face to face is the part of my work that fuels me the most.
5 — What’s shifting in fashion and media right now that genuinely excites you?
People are becoming more conscious and value-driven. They understand that every purchase supports not just a product, but a philosophy – and they choose more intentionally what they want to stand behind. It feels like a shift toward substance, toward slower choices and clearer values. That gives me a lot of hope.
6 — What’s one belief the fashion world should let go of — and one it should keep?
It should definitely let go of the idea that fast trends and chasing big margins are the keys to success. I believe in long-term thinking – investing in ideas that may not pay off immediately but have the potential to grow over time. Creativity needs time: ideas flourish when they are given space, patience, and room to develop. Too often, the pace of the industry works against the depth it truly longs for.
And one to keep? Not a belief, but a reminder: fashion should not forget its own power – the magic inherent in it. People often think of it as superficial, but I’ve never seen it that way. Fashion can shift energy, identity, emotion – and I think the industry should hold onto that and return to it more intentionally.
7 — You’ve been a TNG regular since day one. Where do you see the overlap between what you do and what we’re building?
First of all, I’m a huge admirer of what you’ve built and proud to have followed since day one. What connects us most is probably our shared belief in bringing people together and creating space for meaningful conversations. In our issues at style in progress, we often do this through double interviews – pairing voices that might not meet otherwise and letting them exchange perspectives on what matters in the industry right now. I deeply believe in the power of dialogue. Great ideas rarely appear in isolation.
8 — If you had to build a moodboard for your life right now, what would be on it?
I actually have one pinned beside my desk as I answer this. It includes images of brands whose creative directors I hope to interview soon; a lot of art, which is a major source of energy and inspiration for me right now; some visuals related to DJing, a passion I’ve recently discovered and want to pursue further; and finally a quote I’ve been carrying with me this year: “You need to feel at peace more than you need to feel in control.” It’s a reminder I return to daily.
9 — What conversation at THE NEW GREEN stayed with you — a moment that shifted something?
A conversation with a very special person about being proud of yourself as an entrepreneur has particularly stayed with me. It reminded me how rarely we pause to acknowledge what we’ve already built. In a world that moves so quickly, it’s easy to lose the joy in the process. That conversation grounded me and I hope it can be a reminder for everyone reading this to look back with gratitude more often.
10 — If THE NEW GREEN created a drink inspired by you, what would it taste like — and when would you drink it?
I have to cheat a little and choose a drink that’s already on your menu: I’m completely obsessed with the Golden Glow Matcha. It’s unexpected and layered, a mix of flavors that somehow come together to feel warm and energizing. I would love to be perceived like that.
And when would I drink it? From my desk to travels, turntables and everywhere in between. There’s hardly a moment where TNG doesn’t feel like it belongs.
